Kang Hee-sook did everything in her power to make Han Ji-hoon top of his school until she learned that Han Ji-hoon and her nephew Han Chang-soo (Son Bo-seung) had switched. However, she got back her liveliness when started supporting Han Chang-soo and eventually got him to win first place in the singing concour.
Kang Hee-sook noticed something was off when Hwang Mi-ok (Nah Moon-hee) drunk talked and ran a DNA test on Han Ji-hoon. She was outraged to find out Han Ji-hoon was her real son. In front of the grown-ups of the family, she said, "Ji-hoon is immature and my brother is crazy. But how can you all do this?"
Han Ji-hoon then said, "No one here is at fault. The only person in this room who wishes you weren't my mother is me. The family found out not long ago. I planned this and I forced it on them". Kang Hee-sook asked, "Do you hate me that much to do something like this?"
Han Ji-hoon said, "I told you. I would die and be born again to someone else. Being your son is the biggest mistake of my life". He turned to leave and Kang Hee-sook followed him but fainted.
Kang Hee-sook was taken to the hospital where Han Seong-hoon (Lee Seung-joon) told her, "Ji-hoon tried to kill himself by jumping off the roof of the hospital".
