Don't be fooled by the generally light overall tone of the episode.
Sure, in the immediate sense it's all fun and games as Jin-woo's team
celebrates their opening legal victory. There's even cute romance- an
element that's been all too lacking since the early episodes, mainly
because the revenge and melodrama have been hitting such a high point
that there just hasn't been any space for it. But just round the corner
there's always some new morbid plot twist.
While I do want to criticize the main plot twist really, why bother? "Remember" takes so many stops on the implausibility train there's just no point and besides, I'm not a doctor. What's more, it's the construction of the overall story that really matters here. Jin-woo has such an uncharacteristically easy time this episode legally that there has to be some sort of absurd obstacle. I just sort of wish that obstacle came from the actual antagonists rather than writer Yoon Hyeon-ho's twisted mind.
On the other hand, it is pretty fun watching Gyoo-man become victim to threats for once. The video really is the most hilarious part of all that, because the only way this plan could have possibly worked is if the bad guys always do their elaborate torture procedures in the same building. Why don't they just have better guards for their more important meetings? Although I might as well ask why no one at Jin-woo's firm ever bothers to lock the door. These days most doors lock automatically you know. Technology on the march.
...Ugh, even when I try to avoid discussing the implausibilities in "Remember" I still end up discussing the implausibilities in "Remember". It's honestly kind of hard not to, what with nearly every single storyline event feeling like it needs some sort of rebuttal. It's hard to come up with sensible scenes, like where Jin-woo makes an actual video of the bulb explosion just to safeguard against the corporate conspiracy bribing more witnesses.
You know what Jin-woo should do? Find expert witnesses with no friends or families. I'm legit curious what the corporate conspiracy would do when faced with someone who has no use for money. Ah, who am I kidding- money makes a difference to anyone, not just the guys with adorable cancer patients as wards. I don't remember whether she's actually literally a cancer patient but it doesn't really matter. As easy as it is to mock fictional works for using tried-and-trued tropes, they did become tried-and-trued tropes for a reason.
