"My Sassy Girl - Drama" episode 7-8 recap

One of the better clarifications "My Sassy Girl - Drama" has been making lately is that there are in fact two Princess Hyeomhyeongs. The first one, the one that exists in the real world, quickly gets vindictive about perceived personal slights. But once the conflict is resolved, she is mostly willing to forgive and forget. By contrast the second Princess Hyeomhyeong, the one that exists in Gyeon-woo's imagination, continues her personal grudges forever, driving Gyeon-woo completely mad.
While Gyeon-woo might know his classical Chinese and martial arts, he's quite clueless when it comes to women. I especially like how Gyeon-woo is able to take the actions of Princess Hyeomhyeong in his imagination and extrapolate them to the real person. Princess Hyeomhyeong is of course completely clueless as to what's prompted the change in Gyeon-woo's behavior, and as a result the subdued Princess Hyeomhyeong's mild teasing is even funnier than the outrageous behavior of the one who exists in Gyeon-woo's imagination.
That dynamic is doing quite well. The actual plot remains at a bit of a slowdown. We know that Gi-joon (played by Jung Woong-in) is obviously at the head of some sort of elaborate royal conspiracy, and that whatever complicated plan he has in mind involves using Princess Hyeomhyeong as leverage against the King Huizong (played by Son Chang-min). We also know that Queen Jungjeon (played by Yoon Se-ah) has some awareness of what Gi-joon is doing, although the situation is vague enough she could be on either side.
...And that's all I'm left with, is vague speculation. As far as Gyeon-woo and Princess Hyeomhyeong are concerned, her kidnapping was just payback on the part of the pawnbroker, who was working alone, and they're still in a romantic comedy. Well, that's what Gyeon-woo thinks anyway. Princess Hyeomhyeong is so out of the loop on everything we're going to have to wait until the next episode for a potential plot to envelop her again.
Until then, just enjoy the general comedic antics over Gyeon-woo's mother Lady Heo (played by Jang Young-nam), pressuring him into trying get a wife using a suspiciously anachronistic technique. Jang Young-nam, like Jung Da-bin, is well cast on account of her giant crazy person eyes. Likewise, I suspect that Lady Heo, like Gyeon-hee, is really trying to subtly nudge Gyeon-woo into marrying Da-yeon. A pity that with every successive scene, we find that Da-yeon is sincerely a very mean person.
