"Entertainers" Episode 4 recap

Despite wavering ratings, "Entertainers" continues strongly. Ji Seong is just hitting this role out of the park. Kang Min-hyuk had the chance to really open up as Ha-neul truly lets himself feel the after effects of the horrors in his life. We get some backstory on Green. And that pesky mystery, it just keeps throwing curve balls at us. Honestly, I could just sit here all day and watch this fledgling band bicker and rehearse all day. The romance really isn't necessary...at all. You think I'm joking.

When Seok-ho leans in close in order to make a point, Green is shaken by his nearness and overpowering masculinity. Ji-seong has that affect on all women. But the injection of romance honestly only detracts from the Seok-ho's redemption, Ha-neul's fight for himself, and Green's sacrifice for someone who gave her everything when she had nothing. It's early in the game. I think the romance should wait a bit. We have so much ground to cover in the mean time. Joo-han, Seok-ho's former underling and current betrayer has nasty secrets he's keeping and even nastier ways of keeping them. These secrets are tied in with Ha-neul who is just barely keeping it together. Kyle quit Juilliard to make it as a musician and is throwing everything into their band. Yeon-soo has his young son to think about. Green is focusing on giving Ha-neul what he deserves. So much plot fodder. I'm seriously on an overload.

And did I mention the feels? Kyle, Yeon-soo, and Chan-hee are an adorable little trio that are just learning to get along. Kyle swallows his pride to tell Ha-neul how much he respects him as a musician and thinks that they're band really has something special musically. I'm hoping the same revelation comes in reverse, and then includes Yeon-soo. Green and Ha-neul are always achingly sweet together as they care for each other as deeply as blood siblings. The formation of these families, like I said last episode, it the groundwork for "Entertainers".

The full introduction of the event that ruined Ha-neul's life was well-paced and directed. It was as frightening and overwhelming in flashback as I'm sure it was for Ha-neul the first time. There is a young boy, I assume he's Ji-young's younger brother, who keeps running from Ha-neul. Methinks he might hold a key to Ha-neul's acquittal. The politics of the entertainment industry is a little less than glamorous and more clunkily portrayed than the " family" dynamics, which is often the case with writer Yoo Yeong-ah. As 3-D as the dynamics between characters are, the portrayal of the entertainment biz is as 1-D; it's just plain flat with a few yelling execs and one man pulling strings. Yes, it is accurate to an extent, but this story really isn't about entertainment - it's about the entertainers themselves.
