There is so much grief on the horizon of "Black"
and with our good characters closer to the main villain than ever,
deaths are an expected outcome. Ha-ram's fate is no longer known or
secure and our heroine's decisions over her relationship with the
titular Reaper will be adding another layer of tragedy to an already
sordid case. Many questions are answered, but I am greedy for more.
Ha-ram's (Go Ara) survival is explained, but I still find her recovery suspicious. Our Runaway Reaper (Park Doo-sik/Lee Hae-young-I) wonders why she is not dead, which means that the opening of the capsule by any Reaper "on the clock" is not a reversible process. I doubt he treated her, since she would have seen him as a shadow inside the doctor, but his position and skills mean that he could possibly know how life-threatening her wounds have been.
Speaking of whom, this rogue soul remains a big question mark. Aside from medical skills, he also seems to have the memories that the man he is possessing formed with Moo-gang (Song Seung-heon) long before our Runaway Reaper entered the doctor's body. There has to be a reason for this and I hope that we find out. I have this sneaking suspicion and fear that, with only four episodes left, we may not have answers to all such questions. I would at least like the bigger ones answered, however.
Once again we have a packed plot here and a case of our smarter end of the investigative process, meaning Man-soo (Kim Dong-jun) and Gwang-gyeon (Kim Won-hae), getting very close to the truth. Sadly, this truth marks the end of our beloved Crazy Dog, as I do not see a way for him to survive a meeting with our Big Bad. Perhaps now Black will get some proper mystery solving going, because he has been busy with anything but lately.
Said "anything but" is also entering a doomed romance. I knew this was coming, but my brain still hurts over how our heroine is going to handle the fact that she is now getting physical with the corpse of an acquaintance and the soul of a dead 13-year-old who never grew up as human. There is just no way to make this romance romantic or functional, but its juvenile "He saved me so I have a crush" nature helps.
It helps because it shows that the only relationships our very child-like characters are capable of are pure and immature. One exception would be Soo-wan (Lee El), who tried letting go and moving on from a life which will not leave her alone. Her love for Moo-gang seems true and perhaps her actions will help shine some light on the truth Gwang-gyeon now pays the price for.
"Black" is directed by Kim Hong-seon-I, written by Choi Ran-I and features Song Seung-heon, Go Ara, Lee El and Kim Dong-jun.
