"Black" Episode 3 recap

The whimsical, yet harsh world of the dead comes to light in episode three of "Black", as we meet new Reapers and go through the events which lead our titular agent of demise into the body of Moo-gang. Ha-ram continues to work on her father's case and her ability draws in those who need to use it. The plot thickens and its rules become complicated. Will "Black" help us make sense of it all?
Our short introduction to Reapers reveals quite a lot, such as the existence of a distanced deity and ranks. This creates the same problems of hierarchy we find on Earth, making their world more relatable. From 444/Black (Kim Tae-woo) being true to his cold and deadly name (4 sounding like and signifying death in several East Asian countries) to 007 enjoying worldly goods like romantic fiction, "Black" gives these entities a bit of flavor.

We now have a clearer connection between Ha-ram (Go Ara) and Moo-gang's (Song Seung-heon) past through the ever so mysterious Soo-wan (Lee El). I expect that Oh Man-soo (Kim Dong-jun) and his abusive overlord will be related as well. Before the series began I assumed the saving of lives by our characters would be a work of compassion, but I find their selfish reasons more interesting. I do hope the series goes a bit deeper, however. I also sincerely hope it addresses the shaming of suicide victims Black engages in.
Speaking of victims, we learn more about the fate of our main characters. We know that whether through this case or not, both of them are destined to die in the near future. This makes me wonder if the series will stick to the absolute nature of death or not. Will it really kill both of its leads or do special circumstances re-write fate? We are slowly getting acquainted to the rules of this world and I hope the writer does not break them without setting the exceptions up properly.
Soo-wan being threatened by someone from her pastBlack upon discovering he is in charge of taking Ha-ram's soul
This is why some elements here worry me. For example, if Black is already in trouble for being missing in action, how are his plans supposed to magically fix this? If Ha-ram can see the shadows of Reapers inside humans as well, how can she not see Black in Moo-gang? Can seasoned Reapers hide this? Even if they can, how could Black had done it before knowing she sees them?
There is a lot to keep track of in "Black" and that includes possible errors, but if they are easily missed they might not be big enough to spoil one's engagement. On the other hand, I hope the drama avoids or at least eventually addresses more glaring issues like the ones mentioned above. The world of "Black" is captivating and I wish we get a solid journey through it.
"Black" is directed by Kim Hong-seon-I, written by Choi Ran-I and features Song Seung-heon, Go Ara, Lee El and Kim Dong-jun.

"My Golden Life" episode 16 recap

On KBS 2TV drama "My Golden Life", Seo Ji-an (Shin Hye-sun) and Choi Do-kyeong (Park Si-hoo) admitted the truth to each other.
Choi Do-kyeong was briefed about the 40th anniversary event by Seo Ji-an and called her into his room.
He told her, "I thought about your request. I understand your situation and I feel bad for you. But I can't tell you that I will do the favor for you. It's not that easy. It's a very big deal. I have to think about my parents. Mo matter how much you beg, your parents won't be forgiven".
Seo Ji-an said, "I didn't mean for you to forgive my mother and father. I didn't want to ruin the 40th anniversary event. That would be too selfish of me. It's because of me that my father chose to do that".

"Mad Dog" Episode 3 recap

A cat and mouse game is great, but a slow burning fight between two mad dogs is not too shabby when the progress is decent. Kang-woo and his "Mad Dog" team turn Min-joon into their investigation's target; a move which the young man welcomes, even if he is met with more challenge than he anticipated. Meanwhile, a new face has surprising ties to the protagonists' past.
Episode three delivers more progress with the dog team and that is most welcome. In fact, the human element of the story is the most interesting one and that is no surprise; stories are all about experiencing nature and humanity. I find the fact that the team's backstories frame current cases and guide our hero's morality back to something less cynical quite encouraging. It is good writing, because it also helps audiences relate through someone closer than a guest character.
Soon-jeong taking the fall for his exChairman Cha defeating Hyeon-gi
I am wondering what direction the series will be taking, however. Will every person of interest be another piece in the puzzle Min-joon (Woo Do-hwan) is piecing together while Kang-woo (Yoo Ji-tae) trails behind him, waiting for it all to make sense? Following an oblivious character towards a known outcome does not sound like an excting story, so my hope is that doubt will start creeping into Kang-woo's mind, making him directly involved in this mystery.
Then we have the politics. Oh where would Dramaland be without its Rich Evil Dudes™, their fake laughter and their backstabbings over expensive sashimi and drinks. This sequence and its characters are sadly an absolute snooze. Joo Hyeon-gi (Choi Won-young) is greedy with an inferiority complex and Chairman Cha (Jung Bo-suk) is a neglecting, calculating father. Cha Hong-joo (Hong Soo-hyun) is standard case of a smitten antagonist with daddy issues. I am waiting for nuance, "Mad Dog".
Kang-woo refusing to help Eun-jooKang-woo threatening Min-joon
For now, I am curious about where Min-joon's behavior toward Kang-woo stems from. Is it just a facade to mask his fears and weaknesses or does he have some personal grudge against Kang-woo? If Chairman Cha had anything to do with the crash or if Min-joon thinks that he did, that would explain a lot. Kang-woo is still his most loyal dog, after all and as far as Min-joon is concerned.
Most of all, I want to see meatier content from the individual cases. I understand that Kang Eun-joo (Park Ji-yeon-I) is suspicious and that this case is more about our leads than her, but she is a dull, standardized victim stereotype. The creators clearly understand that pity does not equal deeper emotional involvement, so I hope they pay the same attention to guest characters as they do to their main ones.
"Mad Dog" is directed by Hwang Ee-kyeong, written by Kim Soo-jin-V and features Yoo Ji-tae, Woo Do-hwan, Ryu Hwa-young, Kim Hye-seong and Jo Jae-yoon.

"Hospital Ship" episodes 29 - 30 recap

On the latest episode of the MBC drama "Hospital Ship" Kwak Hyeon (Kang Min-hyuk) expressed his love even while his life was in danger.
A group of gangsters kidnapped Song Eun-jae and Kwak Hyeon, threatening and ordering them to operate on their boss. Kwak Hyeon and Song Eun-jae tried to convince them the operation had to be done in the hospital.
The gangsters told them to end it in three hours. If they were even a minute late, everyone in the hospital would die. When the operation finished, the gangsters took Song Eun-jae hostage for post treatment.
Kwak Hyeon tried to save her by telling them it was better they took him and not her. Just then, the maritime police showed up and the gangster pointed a gun at Kwak Hyeon.
Kwak Hyeon was shot unconscious and Song Eun-jae operated on him. When he came to, the first thing he asked was, "Are you hurt?" Song Eun-jae cried tears of relief.
